Belinda Subraman
In the late 1990s, I had access to a foundry, and I had always wanted to make sculpture. During a two-year period I made ten pieces, three in bronze and the rest in cast stone and plaster. I began by fashioning the sculpture in clay over a period as short as a few days and as long as a few weeks. Once I was satisfied, I applied several coats of latex until it became thick enough to create a mold sturdy enough to hold the casting material. After this two year period of sculpting, I lost access to the materials, the foundry, and the lifting devices. For the last several years, I have turned to mixed media — mostly ink and acrylic.
Beside being a mixed-media artist, Belinda is also a poet and the publisher of GAS: Poetry, Art & Music multimedia journal which features interviews, readings, performances and art shows available free at https://youtube.com/BelindaSubraman and https://gaspoertyartandmusic.blogspot.com.
