Katy Stringer is a senior Environmental Studies major and Anthropology minor. She loves creating – painting, sculpting, playing saxophone, knitting, woodworking. Recently she has taken a particular interest in working with ink.
This piece was inspired by Katy’s fascination with the complex world of mycology, an interest that was sparked by her experiences growing and learning about mushrooms in the Non-Timber Forest Products class offered at Ithaca College.
Insects are fascinating! I find all the different shapes and textures a wonderful challenge to capture in drawings.
Honeybees especially have caught my interest – not only because of the dangers they face as a species but also because of the consequences their struggles have for both society and the environment.
